What does the American Speech & Hearing Association say about “Mind-Body” Practices?
The credentialing organization for Speech Language Pathology, ASHA, acknowledges the growing evidence that mind-body practices—including yoga, meditation, and breathwork—support communication recovery and serve as prevention strategies for individuals experiencing cognitive decline. Key benefits include improved language fluency, memory retrieval, cognitive flexibility, attention and executive function skills essential for effective communication. Wellness practices can reduce stress, increase neuroplasticity, and support emotional regulation—all of which set the stage for more effective speech and cognitive therapy.
